USPS Announces July 2025 Postal Rate Hike: What It Means for Your Business Mail

The United States Postal Service will implement new postage rates effective July 14, 2025, and several categories important to business mailers are seeing notable increases. Here’s a breakdown of the key changes:

đź“« July 2025 USPS Rate Increases: What Newspaper Mailers Need to Know

The U.S. Postal Service will raise mailing rates effective July 14, 2025, impacting many services used by newspaper publishers and local advertisers. If you print and mail, it’s important to prepare now—because postage and permitting is about to cost more.

đź’¸ Permit Fees Are Going Up

Permit-related fees are rising this July—including account maintenance and imprint permits—which means your costs could increase even if your mailing volume stays the same. If you’re managing your own mailing permits, these hidden costs can add up fast.

But here’s the good news:

👉 If you print your newspaper with us, you can use our permit imprint for marketing and first class mailings—completely free of charge.

That means no annual fee, and one less thing to worry about as USPS rates go up.

🗞️ Marketing Mail Flats Cost More Across the Board

Marketing Mail is commonly used for community papers and free publications. For mailings weighing 4 oz or less, the new per-piece rates at our local post office are:

  • Saturation (EDDM) Flats: $0.252 (Price is currently 0.202)
  • 5-Digit (automation): $0.732 (Price is currently 0.617)
  • 3-Digit (automation): $0.948 (Price is currently 0.794)
  • Mixed ADC (automation): $1.185 (Price is currently 0.901)
  • 5-Digit (non-automation): $0.831 (Price is currently 0.700)
  • 3-Digit (non-automation): $1.008 (Price is currently 0.847)
  • Mixed ADC (non-automation): $1.22 (Price is currently 0.911)

Every piece counts—especially when you're mailing thousands of copies per issue.

đź“° Periodicals Will Also Increase

While final rates are still pending, early data shows Periodicals mailings—especially Outside County Piece Prices—are on the rise. For regular newspapers delivered by mail, this means a higher cost per copy, even for small, lightweight editions.
